JGPS Active Schools Update March 2008!
It’s been a busy term at JGPS and a successful active one! The clubs have all been up and running now since January and end this week. The Fencing club has been going well and will carry on next term. This proved to be a very popular club with a large waiting list. The new forms for this will go out by end of term and is open to all.
This term has seen the start across the cluster of the Active Nursery programme with every feeder nursery offering blocks of Mini tennis and Mini Kickers. This has proved highly successful and more blocks to be organised next term.
We have also had the good news from the Council and Sports Scotland, that our Active schools programme is to continue for at least another 3 years- thanks for all your support and positive feedback. Please help us to keep the active schools programme going, by giving feedback and high participation numbers.
We have re started the inter cluster Primary Basketball leagues at the Crags. The 2 teams along with coach Mr Briggs played on Friday 29th February at Crags against teams from Brunstfield, Sciennes and St Peters to name a few. Well done to all players involved. Next league date is 14 March. Big thank you to Mr Briggs and Mr McWhiter for coaching the schools basketball players. Please note there are still spaces for the Crags cluster basketball club every Friday 4-5.30. Please let me know if you want to attend for rest of term and next term
The skiing has also been going well this term although the windy weather has been challenging! We hope to run this again next year.
Please note that the p6 bike scheme will be running again from 8 April- 13 May 1.30-3 each Tuesday- we desperately need parents to assist weekly or the children will be unable to oarcatise their skills on the road. If anyone has one hour of their time to give any of the weeks (you do not need to be a bike expert or even have a bike!) please contact Fiona or Mrs Bierman. Thank you.
Few dates for diary coming up- the p7 Transition festival on 16 June at the Meadows- all p7 pupils across the cluster taking part in a host of fun activities and a great chance to meet your new classmates in High school.
Cluster Tennis festival coming up Friday 14 March at St Thomas Aquins- 4 players representing the school selected by Alan the Tennis coach.
Health week dates are 2- 6 June keep it in your diary!
Also the Tesco Junior and Mini Great Edinburgh Run is taking place again on 3 May on the Meadows- enter on line at www.greatrun.org this is a great fun way to get your children running and everyone gets a medal, goody bag and a T-shirt. Entry forms will also be at school on the active schools notice board by the Gym.
Other big event coming up is the 1st ACTIVCITY ADVENTURE RACE on 23 April at Meadow bank –taken from the famous Edinburgh Rat race for seniors. This event will include Rock climbing, mountain biking , football, rugby, tennis, orienteering, football and cricket. JGPS have entered a team and we hope the day will be the 1st of many!
Finally the BA Youth Games are on again this year on 15 May – JGPS is entering a golf team this year amongst others, again any parental support at this event would be appreciated.
I would also like to add a big thanks to this year’s p7 PALS who have done a great job in the playgrounds every day and who will be helping with the training on the new p6 Pals next term. Your work has been much appreciated!
The new programme for next term will be going home to each of you shortly and must be returned end of that week please.
Thanks again for all your support and here’s to a health active summer term!
