Communication Between Home and School
We believe that teachers and parents should work in partnership to ensure that every child reaches his or her potential at school.
This website provides information about the curriculum and termly newsletters from teachers give an overview of what is happening each term. 'Meet the Teacher' sessions early in each school year also give parents an opportunity to come in and ask questions about the curriculum their child will be following.
Parents are welcome to make an appointment through the school office if they wish to have time on a one-to-one basis with a member of staff.
We encourage parents to support us in school with aspects of the curriculum in which they have a special interest or expertise. We plan to have a database of such parents who would be available to come in on a regular or one-off basis to support our work.
Homework
Homework will be given regularly by teachers. In the early stages it will consist mainly of reading and we appreciate the support of parents in practising reading with their child at home as this develops fluency and comprehension.
Homework for older pupils consists of a variety of work reflecting what is done in class. We ask parents for their support in ensuring that homework is conscientiously completed and to sign it to indicate to the teacher that they have seen it. We try to ensure that homework is based on each child's abilities but occasionally difficulties arise which may cause anxiety for children or parents. Please reassure your child that if this happens s/he should discuss the difficulty with their class teacher. Homework is designed to support and enhance class work and should never cause stress or undue anxiety.
