Complaints Procedure
If there is a problem
The Local Answer:
If you wish to raise a concern with the Educational Service, the first person to approach will normally be:
- The Head Teacher of your school
- The Community Education Worker at your local Area Office or Community Education Centre
- The office staff dealing with matters such as free meals, transport or bursaries at The City of Edinburgh Council, Education Department. He/she will try to resolve the difficulty or provide an explanation to you within ten working days
Advice and Conciliation Services
If you remain dissatisfied, you can make a complaint to the Education Department. The Advice and Conciliation Service provides a Helpline during office hours to advise you on how to take further action.

A written acknowledgement will be sent promptly when your complaint has been received in writing. Following the investigation of your complaint a full reply will be sent as soon as possible. This will tell you the outcome of your complaint. The reply will explain the conclusion, the reasons for it and any action taken or proposed. It also contains advice about any further action you make take if you remain dissatisfied.
