JGPS Pupil Council
As a health promoting school, we believe that our pupils have a role to play in decision making which affects the life and work of the school. Our first elected Pupil Council was formed in 2004 with elections taking place yearly. Pupils are elected by their classmates to represent them at Council meetings. The Pupil Council meets with the Head Teacher, Mrs Grierson, on a regular basis to discuss ongoing and relevant issues. At Pupil Council meetings important issues are discussed, ideas shared and action points decided. Children are taught to take part in discussions and to respect one another's opinions and perspective on the issues being discussed. After the meetings the class representatives are given time to report back to their class. The benefits of the Pupil Council are many, the main one being that children feel valued in the school. Their opinions are listened to and this makes them feel good about their own place in the school community. It also encourages them to take on responsibilities within the school and to be active and responsible citizens.
