Safe Routes to School

Safe Routes

We have a very active Safe Routes to School Group who have produced an excellent travel plan for the school.   They have actively campaigned to make the routes to and from school safer for our children.   We would like to encourage children to cycle or walk to school.   Visibility is essential for children and we recommend children wearing a bright outer garment to ensure they are highly visible to drivers.   Excellent items are available from www.brightkidz.co.uk

Our aim is to encourage our children to walk, cycle and use public transport for health, safety and environmental reasons. We want everyone's journey to school to be safe, healthy and pleasant, and we encourage parents, children and staff to play their part in achieving this.

The JGPS Travel Plan, written by us with input from the City of Edinburgh Council and the Road Safety Unit, describes how we can all contribute to achieving this aim. The Travel Plan is available via the link below.

The Safe Routes Group consists of interested parents, and has meetings at least once a term. We operate as a sub-group of the JGPS Parent Council. We would welcome new members and your thoughts and ideas on school travel. Contact Cherry by email or by note in the PTA box in the school foyer.
