 JGPS S chool Uniform

We emphasise the wearing of school uniform and ask for parents' support in ensuring that their child wears it to school every day.   Uniform enables the children on outings to be clearly visible and identifiable.   It also promotes the feeling of unity and "whole school family".   We believe that uniform eliminates the competitive element with items of clothing.

Our uniform is on display in the foyer of the school for parents to view.

The main school colours are maroon and navy for P1-6 pupils.  We have available to order at school the following items:

  • School sweatshirt - navy with maroon trim
  • School polo shirt - navy or white
  • Navy fleece
  • Navy waterproof coat
  • Navy cardigan with maroon trim
  • Navy or maroon sweatshirt skirt
  • Navy or maroon cap
  • Navy gilet

In addition, our P7 pupils wear a slightly different sweatshirt and polo shirt to identify them as our oldest pupils with extra responsibilities.   The following items are available from the school for P7 pupils:

  • Navy sweatshirt with gold trim
  • Gold polo shirt

Additional items which pupils may wear which are not available from the school are listed below.   We do expect children, when representing the school at formal events such as orchestra, choirs etc. to wear our more formal uniform (white shirt and school tie).   We normally hold a small supply of ties which are available for purchase.   We recommend that parents buy a tie for these occasions.  These can be purchased from major shops and Clan House Morningside.

In addition, the pupils need a gym bag which contains gym shoes, a plain t-shirt and shorts for PE activities.

In winter months please ensure your child is visible walking to and from school.   Bright coloured outerwear is excellent for dull conditions and reflective materials for after dark.   Special items can be ordered from www.brightkidz.co.uk a sample of which is on display in the school foyer.

The City of Edinburgh Council operates a scheme to provide clothing vouchers for families in receipt of Income Support or Job Seekers Allowance.   Other families may be eligible for clothing vouchers, depending on personal circumstances.   Parents who wish to apply for the scheme should complete an application form which is available from school or the Education Department.
