Additional Support Needs Provision
The school has a full time Support for Learning Teacher who is able to support pupils who require additional support at school. This can take the form of support in class from either the Support for Learning Teacher or a Learning Assistant, withdrawal to work in the Support Base on a 1:1 or small group basis or differentiated activities or rescources which are given to the class teacher to use.
As a school we are fully committed to inclusion and ensure that pupils with additional support needs are fully supported with additional staff and resources in mainstream classes.
What is Support for Learning?
It is extra support given in school to help any child work to the best of their ability.
Who gets Support for Learning?
Many children receive support in their learning. They may, for example, have specific difficulties in some area of their school work or perhaps require short term support with a particular aspect of their work.
Who gives Support for Learning?
Support can be given by one or more of the following members of staff: the Class Teacher, the Support for Learning Teacher, Visiting Support Teachers and/or Learning Assistants.
What form does Support for Learning take?
Support can be provided by identified members of staff and may take a variety of forms. It may be given on a 1:1 basis, in a small group or within the class context. It is possible that although a child does not receive direct support from the SfL teacher / Specialist Teacher appropriate programmes of work will be provided andprogress monitored. Alternatively, activities planned and supervised by the Class Teacher may, at times, be delivered by a Learning Assistant.
For how long will my child continue to receive support?
The length of time which may be allocated to provide Support for Learning can vary greatly. Support may be required only for a limited period of time to overcome a short term difficulty. In other situations continued support may be required for a longer period of time in a particular curricular area. Decisions regarding the duration and intensity of support will be based on pupil progress as teaching proceed.
How will I know how my child is getting on?
There are 2 parent / teacher consultation sessions during each school year to which you will be invited to attend. It is important for us to work in partnership with parents, therefore, should you have any concerns regarding your child's learning, please feel free to arrange an appointment.
Will my child be given Support for Learning homework?
If thought to be appropriate and helpful, your child may be given homework. This may take a variety of forms e.g. spelling, reading, comprehension activities, independent writing and / or simple book reviews. Your support is beneficial as not only does homework keep you in touch with the teaching, but it is also important for you to provide encouragement and praise. Feedback on your child's motivation and ability ro complete this work is very useful to school staff.
