 Nursery / Primary 1

   Pupils come to James Gillespie’s in Primary 1 from a wide variety of local nurseries although by far the majority come from our own Nursery Class.    Children in the nursery class use resources within the main school and the nursery teacher works with school staff to ensure continuity and progression from children in the nursery into P1.

     Primary 1 teachers visit all children in their nursery classes in early June to get to know them and see them in their own environment.

     We  then have induction afternoons in June where parents and children come in to meet each other and find out more about the school. It is also an opportunity for parents to purchase uniform and find out what children need to start school.

Primary 7 / Secondary

     Children in P7 who live in the James Gillespie’s Primary school district area transfer to :

James Gillespie’s High School

Edinburgh

EH9 1DD

     Children who live outside the district area will be placed initially in the secondary school for their district area.   Parents who wish to choose another school must apply either by completing the relevant form available from school or in writing to the City of Edinburgh Council Children and Families Department by 31^st December (or other date stated on the form) of the year before their child goes to Secondary School.
